The Boys Cross Country team competed in the Atlanta Classic on Saturday October 13, 2018 in Villa Rica. With ideal fall weather conditions on the fast Clinton Farms course, 27 Raider Harriers posted season best times. The Varsity finished a 4th place in a strong field of 24 teams.
Sophomore Eli Hoppenfeld led the Raiders with a personal best 16:45. Hoppenfeld commented, "I loved this course. Instead of having time to think about how tired you are, you are just worried about the next turn in the woods, or a stretch along the lake, or making a charge up the hill." Sophomore Cody Kaplan and Senior Erick Ramirez pushed each other to new Personal Records in a photo finish. Senior Sammy Miller also ran the fastest time of his career.
Head Coach Zach McKeone was proud of the team. "These guys are busting it, and we are peaking at the right time. The last time we competed here in 2014, we had six runners under 20 minutes; this year we had sixteen. I'm very excited for the post-season races. At the Region race, we will line up next to the 3rd and 4th ranked teams in the State (Class AAAAA), and we will be ready to compete."
The Region 6-AAAAA Championship is Thursday, October 25 at Boundary Waters Park in Douglasville. The Raiders were 2017 Region Runners-up and won the Region Championship last in 2009.
